Improv

Mandy has been improvising and teaching improv since 1996, starting with Spontaneous Generation and later joining the Stanford Improvisors, with coach Patricia Ryan Madson, as well as many teachers and coaches at BATS Improv. She performed with the Sunday Players at BATS, and was a Teaching Assistant with the BATS Summer Intensive for seven years. She also belonged to their Young Audiences team, performing improv assemblies and leading workshops at schools throughout the Bay Area.

Meanwhile, she performed, taught, and directed with the Un-Scripted Theater Company for ten years, from 2004 – 2012, where they focus on creating a season of theater that just happens to be improvised—full-length plays and musicals in a variety of styles and genres. While with Un-Scripted, Mandy created and directed groundbreaking shows as The Great Puppet Musical and  Act One, Scene Two.

Currently, here in Portland, she’s performed with three improv theaters around town: for about a year, she was part of the mainstage ensemble at Curious Comedy, and played on the mainstage team “Hood.” She appeared in “A Something Kind of Musical” and “Anon and On and On” at the Brody Theater, and directed/performed in “Deadwood: Unscripted,” “Murder Mystery Machine,” and “Hughes-ical: The Musical” at the Funhouse Lounge. She’s currently the Director of Improv at the Funhouse.

Mandy is available for coaching—she likes helping groups figure out their unique dynamic and their best formats. So far she’s worked with Gazpacho! Gazpacho!, On Sideways Hats, and Lady Parts.
